How much is your stuff worth?

Have you had a good look around at your stuff? How much is that new computer worth? Or that awesome flat screen television? If you lost these items, how frustrated would you be if you could not be refunded for them? Often times, it’s only after a fire or other incident that people notice they’ve underestimated the value of their belongings.

trucs astucesThat’s why it’s essential to correctly evaluate the value of your possessions and property before even getting an insurance policy. Here’s how:

It’s incredible, how quickly we can amass things. Making an exhaustive list of all that you own may seem a daunting task, but it’s an important one that will allow you to properly evaluate what your stuff is worth.

Snap pictures of your house, computers, furniture, jewelry, etc. and keep them in a fireproof safe or safety deposit box—they won’t help you with an insurance claim if they burn in a fire.

Download an app that helps you create a list and figure out the value of your possessions.

Once you’ve done the work, make sure to keep your list up-to-date and review it once a year. Got a pool installed? Bought a new art print? Add it to the list and make sure to call your insurance broker so he can add it to his.
